Our Story

The Urban Samburu began with a simple love for rugs.

Not just rugs as objects, but the way a beautiful handmade rug can quietly transform a room. The warmth it brings underfoot. The texture it adds to a space. The way it anchors furniture, softens a room and, over time, becomes part of the memories made there.

The Urban Samburu was born from a desire to bring that feeling into more homes.

The Meaning Behind Our Name

The name The Urban Samburu brings together two worlds that inspire us.

Urban represents the way we live today: refined, contemporary and considered. It speaks to clean lines, thoughtful spaces and a modern appreciation for beauty.

Samburu represents something deeper: authenticity, craftsmanship, heritage and quiet strength. It reminds us of the beauty found in things made with intention, shaped by skill and connected to a story.

Together, The Urban Samburu reflects our belief that modern living and meaningful craftsmanship can exist beautifully together.

Our Craft

The Urban Samburu is proudly Kenyan, but our appreciation for craftsmanship has never been limited by geography. We believe exceptional craftsmanship can be found across cultures, regions and generations.

Our rugs are currently created in collaboration with skilled artisans in India, where weaving traditions have been refined over generations. Together, we create made-to-order rugs that bring traditional craftsmanship into contemporary spaces. From size and colour to texture and finish, each piece is thoughtfully considered and made with intention.

As The Urban Samburu grows, we are building towards collaborations with artisans in Kenya and across Africa, alongside the makers and traditions we discover along the way.
